Earth will Have a Second Sun by the end of 2011

The Earth may soon witness a second sun, although just for a week or so.
According to reports yesterday, the brightest star in the sky will explode into a supernova, causing the cosmic phenomenon. Reportedly, it will be the most amazing light show in the history of the planet and may happen this year.
Earth will have a front row seat as the red supergiant star Betelgeuse blows up into oblivion.
Reports say that even though the star is located in the Orion constellation, some 640 light-years away, the explosion will be so bright that it will turn the night sky into daylight and we will be able to see two ‘suns’ in the sky for a few weeks.
Scientists do not yet know exactly when it will happen., Betelgeuse is predicted to crash very soon but Brad Carter, the University of Southern Queensland’s Senior Lecturer of Physics, says that the blast may happen prior to 2012 or indeed at anytime during the next million years.
Dr Carter said that, the old star is losing the fuel in its centre which supports the star and when it runs out it will collapse and explode very quickly.
He added that when it happens it will go bang, explode and light up and Earth will have a brief period of incredible brightness for a few weeks before it begins to fade.
