A temple where a dog is worshipped?

Dogs are usually known for their faithfulness and good companionship. But when in India, the dog is known for abolishing the cast discrimination. A V Halli is a village in the Ramnagaram district in the state of Karnataka, India, where people worship Sri Naayidole Veerappa, who is also known as the dog God.

The temple is situated next to the temple of Sri Veeramasti Kempamma. The locals have a belief that the dog serves as the God’s lieutenant. The devotees come here to make wishes and return to the same temple to offer respects, if their wishes are fulfilled.

The dog God also acts as a fortune teller for the locals and also warns incase of bad events that are about to occur. Moreover, many families in order to show their devotion to the dog God name their new born children after them.

The good thing is the dog God has brought the abolition of the caste discrimination in the village. Even the priest in the temple is always a member of the 'dalit' community.
